Birding is one of the leading recreational activities in the U.S. that stimulates significant economic activity contributing to jobs, state and federal tax revenues and tourism. Spring migration is under way in Alabama which represents, in a sense, the kick off of the season for recreational birders as hundreds of species migrate northward from Central and South America among other locations to the south.
During the week of April 3-9, 2016, Birmingham Audubon will urge Alabama birders to celebrate Spring migration with “Bring Your Binoculars to Work” Week or #BYOBinocs Week. Beginning Sunday, April 3 and continuing through Saturday, April 9, well-known Alabamians will be featured with their binoculars at work along with brief notes about the economic impact of birding to the average profile of birders through Birmingham Audubon’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts.
Birders who participate in Bring Your Binoculars to Work Week are encouraged to share their photos through their own social media posts using the hashtag, #BYOBinocs. Birmingham Audubon can be found on Facebook (Birmingham Audubon Society), Instagram (bhamaudubon), and Twitter (@bhamaudubon).
Even if you don’t participate in social media platforms, be sure and Bring Your Binoculars to Work Week and let your colleagues know what birding means to you.
