Join us for our Monthly Nature Program (“An Overview of the Fossil Sharks and Bony Fishes of Alabama”) with special guest, Jun Ebersole, Director of Collections at Birmingham’s McWane Science Center.

Both an archaeologist and paleontologist, Mr. Ebersole oversees the second largest natural history collection in the state, and is one of the only individuals in Alabama to have published in three different academic fields (archaeology, paleontology, and history). His research has touched on topics as diverse as Homo erectus fossil sites in East Africa, Native American and later historical sites across the eastern United States, and fossil vertebrate diversity right here in Alabama. He is a co-author of the recently published Gorgas House at the University of Alabama (Arcadia Publishing), and the namer of several recently discovered fossil species including Eotrachodon, Alabama’s newest dinosaur.

Aside from his research, Mr. Ebersole has curated numerous exhibitions at McWane, taught as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Anthropology at UAB, and served on the councils of both the Alabama Museums Association and the Birmingham Archaeological Society. He is also an active member of the Alabama Paleontological Society.

Reception starts at 6:30 p.m., talk runs from 7–8:30 p.m., in the East Room at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
