Gosse Nature Walk #14: P. H. Gosse Birthday Stroll at Jemison Park
April 7, 9:00 am–10:00 am
Philip Henry Gosse—the English naturalist and GNW namesake who described Alabama’s Black Belt ecology in the 1830s—would have turned 208 years old this Friday, April 6th. To celebrate his legacy, we’re leading a special Saturday Gosse Nature Walk at Mountain Brook’s Jemison Park on April 7th from 9 to 10 a.m.
This event is also part of the first-annual Shades Creek Fest, a day-long celebration of this important urban waterway with representatives from, and events featuring, many of our area’s most active conservation organizations. Come for the Gosse Nature Walk, then stay for fly-fishing demonstrations, live music, live animals, and more. More details are available on the festival’s Facebook page.
The details: Meetup is at 9 a.m. in the National Bank of Commerce parking lot, located at 813 Shades Creek Parkway (additional parking is available on street further down the parkway). As always, remember to bring plenty of water and snacks, insect repellent, rain gear, sunblock, and seasonally appropriate attire. If you have binoculars, please bring them—we’ll have only a limited number of loaners on hand.
