Winter Audubon Coastal Bird Survey Period
January 10, 2016–February 20, 2016
The 2016 Winter Audubon Coastal Bird Survey period will run from January 10 to February 20. This project is a collaboration between Birmingham Audubon, Mobile Bay Audubon, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Participants survey coastal routes in Mobile and Baldwin counties for all bird species and submit their data to ebird.org, which is publically available. For the Fall ACBS Period, 11 volunteers gave over 50 hours of their time and observed over 100 species. The associated graph displays the numbers of the ten priority species that were documented during this period.
If you are interested in participating, please send an email to Andy Coleman, BAS Program Director, firstname.lastname@example.org. Volunteers can choose from 12 different survey routes and can partner with other volunteers to complete surveys. In addition to the normal ACBS protocol, ACBS volunteers will also be participating in the International Piping Plover Census, which occurs every five years. This census helps inform federal and state managers about this protected species.
